Which console do you man in the Firing Room?

What system(s) do you monitor and control from that console?

Solid Rocket Booster/External Tank (SRB/ET) electrical.

How are those systems used by the Space Shuttle?

SRB/ET Electrical: SRB’s are used to assist the Orbiter into orbit. Our system monitors the electrical system used to power the SRB’s and the ET and also to fire the pyrotechnics and to monitor the ignition of the SRB’s.

What are your responsibilities with regard to those systems?

Assist our United Space Alliance counterparts in monitoring the system and troubleshooting any problems.

What was your most exciting or memorable experience while working in the Firing Room?

The first time I was in the firing room for a launch was very exciting. Knowing I assisted in the firing room to launch a Space Shuttle gave me a great sense of pride.
